Another Italian translation

by on Feb.01, 2017, under Author news, Bookshelf

My newest Italian translation. The couple is a good match for John and Caroline.

I love it when my publisher sends me a surprise in the mail. Today I learned I have a new Italian translation, L’errore di Caroline. It’s an Italian version of The Marriage Act. As in the case of An Heir of Uncertainty, the title pun must not work in Italian.

Frederick Morgan - Off for the Honeymoon

“Off for the Honeymoon” by Frederick Morgan shows a regency couple about to embark on married life.

At All About Romance, reviewer Caz has posted her thoughts on The Marriage Act. She gives the book a grade of B+, writing, “I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance, and this is one of the best I’ve read.”

Thanks, Caz!

Publisher’s Weekly reviews The Marriage Act

by on May.05, 2015, under Author news, Reviews

I just received the first review for The Marriage Act. This is what Publisher’s Weekly has to say:

Everett (An Heir of Uncertainty) ignites sparks between wedded strangers in this tender Regency romance. Caroline, Lady Welford, has just been reunited with her husband, John, Lord Welford, after he served five years in diplomatic service. She believes that her father is dying, and John agrees to travel with her to her father’s home in Kegworth, where they will pretend to have a perfect marriage. But John still hasn’t forgiven Caro for trying to run off with a militia officer on their wedding night. Throughout their lengthy journey and subsequent stay in Kegworth, they begin to not only work through their misunderstandings but learn to forgive and trust. But Caro’s cousin Sophia’s flirtations with John threaten to destroy their newfound truce. Caro is an especially strong and determined heroine, whose ability to persevere despite her husband’s desertion of her makes her a very admirable character. Intense and ever-present romantic tension propel the novel to its emotional conclusion.

So, yay! Waiting for the first review(s) to come in for a book can be scary, and The Marriage Act is a bit edgier than my previous four romances, so I’ve been holding my breath.

I find it interesting that PW singled out the heroine as admirable. The book features a married couple who are at war with each other, and, so far, readers tend to come down strongly on either the hero’s side or the heroine’s–but it’s running 50/50 as to which of the two characters is more sympathetic.

New cover and release date

by on Mar.20, 2015, under Author news, Bookshelf

Cover art for The Marriage Act.

John and Caro, the married-but-estranged hero and heroine of The Marriage Act.

I returned home from a short trip to discover a nice surprise in my inbox: the cover art for The Marriage Act. I love the expression on the heroine’s face. Is she nervous, excited, or merely wondering if she can turn the situation to her advantage? If you can’t tell, then you’re in the same boat as the hero.

And I have an official release date for The Marriage Act. It should be available on July 27.

Best of 2014, New Book News

by on Jan.02, 2015, under Author news, Bookshelf, Reviews

What a nice way to start off 2015. Two different reviewers at Romantic Historical Reviews, Jill and Lady Wesley, both picked An Heir of Uncertainty as one of their favorite books of 2014.

I also have an official title for my next regency: The Marriage Act.

When John, Viscount Welford, proposed at the age of twenty-six to the only daughter of the Bishop of Essex, he thought he knew exactly what he was getting—a lovely and warm-hearted bride, young and innocent but hardly a case of robbing the cradle. He had two excellent reasons to rush the wedding: the diplomatic post awaiting him in Vienna, and his own eagerness to marry the young lady of his dreams.

He never imagined that on their wedding night, his new bride would leave him for another man.

Caro Fleetwood had no thought of going through with the wedding when she accepted Lord Welford’s proposal. She simply wanted to make a certain dashing militia officer wish he’d asked her instead. Lord Welford was too old for her, and she scarcely knew him. But before she could muster the courage to confess her misguided impulse to her father, she was already walking down the aisle. Married to a near-stranger she didn’t love, what choice did she have except to run away once her new husband fell asleep? If only the furious and humiliated Lord Welford hadn’t caught up to her before she could reach her militia officer…

It should be out sometime in the second half of 2015. I’ll post more when I have a firm release date.

Happy New Year!
